How to Use DDM (Instructions & Procedures)

Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology
http://ams-net.org/ddm
Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology (DDM) contains bibliographic records about more than 16,400 dissertations, dating from 1871 to the present. Search results and detailed records can be achieved by performing a basic
search or an advanced search. Most of those records include one or more
codes that can be used to find a dissertation’s abstract or to order a copy of the document itself.

DDM - Basic Search

  1. Type one or more search terms into the search box. (For example, you could type an author/composer’s name, genre, style, and/or period. You can separate your search terms with commas, but you don’t have to. Results will only display items that contain all of your search terms.)

  2. Choose, optionally, to sort your results by name or year and/or filter them by type.

  3. Click Basic Search.

  4. Click a work's title in the search results to see its detailed record.

  5. Click Modify Search or start again, if there are no search results.

DDM - Advanced Search

  1. Type one or more search terms into one or more of the search fields. (You can separate your search terms with commas, but you don’t have to. You can also go directly to Step 2 or combine Steps 1 and 2.)

  2. Select a Classification, Period, and/or Subject.
(Results will only display items that contain all of your search terms and selections.)

  3. Choose, optionally, to sort your results by name or year and/or filter them by type.

  4. Click Advanced Search.

  5. Click a work's title in the search results to see its detailed record.

  6. Click Modify Search or start again, if there are no search results.
